Student Rights

Channel One reported a story about schools in Washington State trying to pass a rule that would ban "booing" from sporting events. Do you agree or disagree with a rule such as this? Why or why not?

I think that booing should be allowed, it's always nice to have some competition and know that you can prove the people who are booing wrong by winning. I think it would make the teams play harder. However, they should not cuss or say anything inappropiate or insulting.

I disagree with this because i think we should be free to say what we want at football games. That's part of our first amendment, freedom of speech. Also, it shows our support for the other team, and we don't really mean anything by it, just to show we like the other team better.

Booing is just natural for sports. (espically when its Auburn :) )
This does bring competion to the game also.

It think if you ban boos then people will find some other way to vent there anger. I disagree because this is the most safest way to let out your anger without violence.

I think students should me able to "boo". The game is only fun when you are going against your rival. There is no point in going to the game if you cant challenge the other team. The whole pint in "booing" is too get the other team nervous so they will lose the game and your team can win. If we can't "boo" are we suppose to cheer the other team on too?

I think students should be able to "boo" at sporting events. It's just a clean rivalry between the teams. If they can't take a boo, there's something wrong.

I think you should be able to boo at a sportibng avent. It is sort of like a tradition. It shows how big a fan you are. Also if it is a rivery game you need to support your team as much as you can and not support the other team at all. Also the players should be able to handle the booing

I think that booing should be aloud
at games cause it allows us to show our feeling. It also alows you to show team spirit.

I think booing should be able to boo. Booing is just away to let out anger. Booing is much better then throughing things at players and umpiers. Also it beats cusing out people in the stands and on the feild. So, if you really think about it booing is not bad at all.

I think that booing should be allowed at games as long as very offensive material is not said. Not being able to boo at games takes away our right to freedom of speech. The first amendment is taken away from us if we are not allowed to support our teams the way we want. Also, it takes out the fun of the rivalry in a game.

I think that students should be able to boo at sports events because it is part of the fun. If you can't take a boo then there's something wrong and you need to learn to grow up , you will not be ok when you get to the real world if you can't take a boo.

I agree that they should ban "booing" at sporting events. because it can distract the players. It can also cause problems and maybe even fights.

I personally don't like that rule. I think it's fun to "boo" at a sports event. When I am playing in the event, and the referee or someone makes a bad call, and the fans start to scream and "boo" that makes me just want to play harder.

This is a silly rule. I mean, booing for the other team is, in a way, showing school spirit. It seems like the school officials are just looking for ways to punish them. Booing the opposite team gets your team fired up and ready to play.

No,i disagree this is infrenging on our first amendment rights, the freedom of speech.american should be able to do say anything thay wish.

I disagree with this kind of rule because it takes away from our freedom of speech. I think we should be able to express what we think as long as it doesn't harm any people. We should be able to say if we think it was a good call or a bad calll by either cheering or booing.

I disagree all the way. Although, some people taking cheering alittle too far by bad language, I think that the Freedom of Speech part of the First Amendment comes into play here. If "booing" gets out of hand the officials can always throw the people out. Taking away their rights wont solve anything.

I agree. If you do that it is disrespectful to the other team. It also shows that you think that team is bad, even though they put a lot of time and effort into playing that sport.

I understand why they might do this but I disagree. Cheering and booing are all part of sports. You cheer when they do something good and you boo when they do something bad. When they mess up you don't say,"Hey, nice try. You'll do better next time." You say,"Your the worst team ever.Boooooooooooooo!"

I think booing should be allowed because if it is banned that would be taking away our first amendment right. We are not hurting anyone by booing and we are just expressing our feelings.

I think that booing should be aloud in sporting events, but should only be used to a certain point. I think it should be alloud to boo because it lets the fans relieve themselves of there anger towards the players or refs.

I disagree because you should be able to yell and boo all you want. Booing is a way of cheering and that is not right for them to take it away. When you are at a game is should be ok. Booing can be fun and a great way to cheer against the opposite team.

I think you should be allowed to boo. While it does lower the confidence of the person you're booing, it shows who you like and what kind of person you are.

I do not think that they need to ban "booing". It is just something that people do for fun and I think that makes the game a little more interesting. When a referre makes a bad call it would be SO boring if you just had to sit there.

i think it is ok to boo because it's freedom of speach and you should be able to speak your mind if you want to however it's tacky to boo

Anonymous said...

I think this is stupid, I mean if you get booed it means you need to do beter it is just inocent fun.

I believe that people should be able to boo because this is a free country and we should be able to express our feelings. Even though sometimes it may not be the correct thing to do
